Noise barriers are not part of routine roadway projects, and Jefferson County generally does not build noise walls or similar barriers next to roadways. The only exception is when the county is constructing a capital improvement project where the main goal is to increase vehicular capacity.

Community members may install a noise-mitigating fence on private property adjacent to roadways classified as an arterial or higher. Noise fences on private property are subject to the Jefferson County Land Development Regulation.
