Homeowner Acting as Their Own Contractor
Homeowners may act as their own contractor for eligible residential projects, subject to the requirements outlined below.
This option is available only for residential projects on properties that are owner-occupied. Owner occupancy must be verified through the Assessor’s Office prior to permit issuance.
When acting as their own contractor, homeowners are responsible for ensuring all work complies with currently adopted building codes, permit conditions, and inspection requirements. Homeowners may be required to hire properly licensed contractors for work that they are not performing themselves or for trades that require licensure under County or State regulations.
Homeowners acting as their own contractor assume full responsibility for project coordination, code compliance, and scheduling required inspections. This allowance does not apply to commercial projects or non-owner-occupied properties.
